Not great with a bio but here goes….. I fell in love with horses at a very young age. My uncle ‘broke’ Wild horses and my first horse memory is of him putting me on a wild mustang when I was 3. That experience ending in injury but I was hooked from that moment forward. I spent most summers with him and the horses he would get in. I got in trouble often for interacting with the ‘dangerous’ ones and not doing it ‘the right way’. I would spend time just being in their presences, learning their body language, hierarchy with the herd and gaining their trust before ever asking anything of them. My uncle soon found that the horses no one wanted go near, the ones deemed aggressive, were the ones I was drawn to. I could work with and ride the horses that his employees couldn’t even get near. In my teens, I moved to a different state and felt lost without the escape and companionship of horses. After several years without horses in my life, a friend asked me to go with her to a rescue she volunteered at. That was how I was introduced to Rainbow Meadows in 2012. I started volunteering immediately. At first just a day here and there, then a weekend a month, then every weekend I could get away. Getting to do the labor involved with managing a large herd and the privilege of working with horses filled a hole in my soul. Then in 2015 I was asked if I would like to become an employee at the rescue. I jumped at the opportunity. I quit my bank job and dove head first. I learned so much about what Rescue Done Right really meant. Being able to be a part of the rehabilitation and training/re-training of horses that had such a rough time was beyond rewarding. There is no better feeling than gaining the trust of an equine that had been let down by humans previously. Developing a partnership with them and seeing them become the horse they were always meant to be, became what it was all about. Unfortunately, my health declined and I had to step away from the rescue in 2020. I am now at a point where I can get back into what I have missed so much…..helping equines in need. I am excited to rejoin Rainbow Meadows and serving these amazing animals.
