BABY Abbi is here!

At 12:45 a.m. on April 6, 2010, a beautiful Palomino filly was born to Little Barlite (a.k.a. Lark), a throw-away mare.
The delivery was quick - 14 minutes from start of the 'bubble' to delivery of the baby. Lark "cooked" this one just perfectly!! (Click here to see Lark on our "Our Rescues" page)

Abbi is a long-legged girl with a lot of size and vigor and quickly began to explore her new world here at Rainbow Meadows. We were so happy to welcome her to the family and are happier still to be able to watch her grow!

Prior to Abbi's arrival, Rainbow Meadows threw Lark a virtual baby shower. The support was overwhelming, and Abbi was spoiled with many, many wonderful gifts.

On May 2nd, her registered name was announced!

RMR Able To Hope
Her dam was a throw-away-mare, largely unloved and ignored her entire life; good only for making babies. Her retirement consisted of a final breeding and then her lead rope was handed to a kill buyer in late August of 2009. Little Barlite had received no love; no reason for trust, but she did have HOPE once she was liberated from the killer!

The word "Able" honors this filly’s paternal granddam, Able Fly By Bars, who spent her life in servitude, having fine baby after fine baby. Her last breeding occurred at age 24. Able had earned a retirement pasture full of green grass belly high (something her owners had plenty of). Instead, shortly after the weaning of her last baby, she was disposed of by euthanasia. Able lives on in the blood of this beautiful baby.

Lark’s Song
composed by Donna Jacot, Rainbow Meadows supporter

Have you ever stopped and wondered
Just what they really see
These little bits of Heaven
He’s entrusted to you and me?

The beauty of a sunrise
Seen the first time through their eyes.
The joy of their first high kick
After many many tries.

The wonder of the morning dew
The warmth of midday sun
The tender touch of mama
When the day is all but done.

Have you ever seen them while at play
Just suddenly stop and stare
At something only they can see
Something you think isn’t there?

Perhaps there really is someone -
Someone only they can see
That causes them to race the wind
And squeal as if with glee.

There are angels all around us
And could it really be
They’ve come to check up on them
These babies here with me.

Just making sure that they’re alright
These wee ones in our care.
Embracing them with all His love
Enough for all to share.

So when a young one’s dancing
Whether human, foal, or deer
Just stop and smile and say a prayer
Be thankful that’s He’s here.
