Paxton and Sterling

Sterling

Rescued gelding, Year of birth: approx. 1982

A grey Arab gelding, Sterling was estimated at being within a month of death from severe malnourishment when rescued by Rainbow Meadows. He was very weak but willing to cooperate, and upon arrival, indicated that he understood his lot in life had changed. He is a very friendly horse and eagerly anticipates mealtime, but does require a senior diet. Sterling is well on his way to recovery. He has a history of having been a successful 4-H horse and family mount. He was fully back to health by the summer of 2008 when he was adopted into a forever home.

The "Lucky 19+4"

The "Lucky 19+4" included 19 horses, donkeys, miniature mules and miniature horses (four of which were pregnant) that were seized on March 13, 2008 along with llamas, dogs, sheep, goats, cats, cattle, turkeys, chickens and prairie dogs in one of Kansas's largest cases of animal cruelty. Upon seizure, the horses and donkeys were placed at Rainbow Meadows, where they received the necessary care to bring them back to health. After being granted ownership of the equids, Rainbow Meadows declared them as up for adoption and forever homes were found!

Capn Morgan

Cap'n Morgan

Rescued gelding, Year of birth: approx. 1993

Captain Morgan (Cap'n) is a Morgan or Morgan-cross gelding who was abandoned when his elderly owner experienced a health-related emergency and was hospitalized. After hospitalization, it was determined that he could no longer live alone, so he was placed in a nursing home. Captain lived alone for 2.5 years with no care. When the farm was scheduled for auction, a neighbor contacted Rainbow Meadows, concerned that the gelding would be sent to slaughter by the new owners. Contact was made with the power of attorney for the owner and permission was received to transfer Cap'n to Rainbow Meadows. His appreciation for human attention was evident the moment he arrived as he allowed numerous volunteers to work for hours to remove all the cockleburs tangled in his mane and tail. Cap'n is a sweet soul that will make a wonderful partner to his new family.

Gracie and Jada

Howards and Willow

Willow

Jada and Willow

Rescued Tennessee Walker (TWH) mares

Years of birth – Approx. 1992 and 1990

Jada and Willow were ransomed from a kill buyer near Topeka, Kansas as part of probably the largest slaughter rescue in Kansas (http://www.youtube.com/1ksjewel). Nearly 50 horses, some as young as 2 weeks of age, were part of a herd of 77 horses and 2 donkeys which were slated to be hauled to Mexico for slaughter. Before the funds could be raised, the first load of 30 were hauled away. Soon however, more than $15,000 dollars was raised from interested individuals across the United States to pay for the horses, saving them from the terror of slaughter.

Both have now found their forever homes where they are sure to be cared for until the end of their days.

Cash

Art's Sweet Fortune (a.k.a. Cash)

Gelding

Date of birth: June 2, 2005

Registering Organization: American Paint Horse Association

Registration Number: 853,689

As a weanling Cash apparently suffered a blow to his right hind pastern, resulting in a bone bruise. Though sound when purchased in December 2005 he was lame by January 2006. His new owners determined that they could not keep Cash because his soundness was in question. A decision was made that Cash would be euthanized. Fortunately, before taking the final step, they sought out Rainbow Meadows Rescue and Retirement, Inc. After a year and a half at Rainbow Meadows, Cash is now fully sound and has found his forever home.

Rebecca and Beau

Jade Beaudaceous (a.k.a. Beau)

Rescued gelding, year of birth: 1993

Beau is a purebred bay Arabian gelding and a true gentleman. Beau was brought to the rescue in March 2007, when he was no longer wanted by his previous owner. Beau has proven to be a calm and quiet horse, and we are excited about the great things he will go on to do with his new adopter!

Curi and Ann

SDR Alimah Curia (a.k.a. Curi)

Mare, Khemosabi GGDaughter

Date of birth: March 11, 1994

 Registering Organization: Arabian Horse Association

Registration Number: 0524094

Curi was adopted in the fall of 2007. Curi had been generously donated by her loving and compassionate owner with the intention that the proceeds from her adoption would be used to support the efforts of Rainbow Meadows Equine Rescue and Retirement, Inc. The donation provided by her adopter has done just that, and we are so happy to see that she has found her forever home!

Rocky and Denise

An Impressiv Rocket (a.k.a. Rocky)

Gelding, Year of birth: approx. 1989

Breeding stock American Paint Horse

Rocky was donated to Rainbow Meadows by his generous and compassionate owner, so that the proceeds from his adoption might be utilized to support the rescue's efforts. He has since been adopted into a happy home, where he serves as the steady mount of his new adopters.

Buddy and Ann

Penrod (a.k.a. Buddy)

Rescued gelding, Year of birth: approx. 1975

When Buddy was almost 30 years old, his owner had mentioned to a neighbor that he was looking for a slaughter auction for the "old black gelding".  Fortunately, this neighbor began a vigilant search for help.  Before long, a team of willing and concerned volunteers had convinced the old rancher that there was a better place for Buddy.  A volunteer for Rainbow Meadows Rescue and Retirement, Inc., pulled her trailer to northern Kansas on a cold March day, then trucked all the way south to Sedan, delivering Buddy to our facility.  He arrived severely underweight, loaded with worms and with a matted hair coat. Luckily, Rainbow Meadows staff worked diligently to rehabilitate him to his healthier, spunkier self and he has now found his forever home.

Raven

Raven

Rescued mare, Year of birth: approx. 2000

Raven arrived with Sweet Pea in October 2006 where they were found at a killer auction. Luckily, a generous Rainbow Meadows volunteer saw them both and saved them from slaughter. Today, Raven lives happily in her forever home with her loving adopters.
